There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads, no data harvesting, and no “Pro” tier coming later. Because Mootch’s Whisper AI engine runs 100% locally on your Mac’s Apple Silicon chip, every hour you use the app costs $0 in cloud servers — so it never needs a subscription to stay free forever.

Never. Mootch transcribes locally on your Mac using whisper.cpp. Your microphone audio and your script never leave your Mac. You can put your Mac in Airplane Mode and Mootch still works at full speed.

No. Mootch sets macOS's native "hidden from screen capture" flag, so when you share your screen on Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, OBS, or QuickTime, the prompter is completely invisible to everyone but you.

The default Tiny model is engineered for live real-time use and barely registers in Activity Monitor. If you want maximum multilingual accuracy, you can switch to Base, Small, or Medium in Settings — though most presenters stay on Tiny.

Yes! Pair with the native Mootch Remote iOS/iPadOS app over Bonjour, scan the QR code in any phone browser, or trigger mootch:// URLs from your Elgato Stream Deck. You can also stream your iPhone's microphone wirelessly into Mootch. See our Remotes & Stream Deck guide for full instructions.

Yes. After a take in Smart mode, export timed .srt or .vtt captions. The text comes straight from your script — so it's always spelled correctly — and the timing follows where your voice actually was.

No. Manual mode scrolls at a fixed speed you control. Voice Gate mode starts/pauses when you speak. Smart AI mode follows your exact words. Pick whichever fits the moment.

Yes — Mootch works with any built-in, USB, XLR, Bluetooth, or wireless iPhone microphone on macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later across both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
