Mootch is a no-business-model passion project that generates zero revenue — on purpose. There are no investors, no subscriptions, no locked Pro tiers, and no ads. If it saves you time or spares you from an $80/year subscription, voluntary coffees are always appreciated!
Why Mootch has no business model
When I looked for a Mac notch teleprompter, almost every app on the market wanted $79 to $99 a year just to scroll text on my own screen — or locked basic voice tracking behind a 3-session weekly paywall.
Since Mootch runs 100% locally on your Mac’s Apple Silicon chip using open-source Whisper AI, every word you speak is processed on your own hardware. It costs me $0 in cloud AI servers when you use the app — so turning it into a subscription business never felt right.
Mootch deliberately has no business model and generates no commercial revenue. I build it because it’s a fun engineering craft project and I love seeing presenters, teachers, creators, and speakers use it. Every feature in Mootch 2.0 (and future updates) will always remain completely free for everyone.
That said, keeping Mootch signed, notarized, and distributed on the Mac App Store & iOS App Store has recurring annual costs (Apple Developer Program at $99/yr, domain & web hosting). If Mootch has been helpful to you, a coffee or tip is hugely appreciated!
